AFP Luncheon: Ethics Panel

Join us on Thursday, June 21 for a great luncheon and education session, "Exploring Real World Fundraising Ethical Dilemmas" presented by a panel including Jocelyn Slaughter, Paige Stephenson, Scott Dishman, and Tommy Blackmon.


Your panel of experts will explore the roles and responsibilities of the fundraiser and board in dealing with unethical situations and will help attendees understand and identify the many ethical dilemmas when dealing with the critical relationship between a nonprofit and its donors. Our panel of experts include Tommy Blackmon, the founder of Nonprofit Transformation, Inc, Paige Stephenson, the President and CEO of the United Way of the Piedmont, Scott Dishman is the Executive Director of the BMW Car Club of America Foundation, and Jocelyn Slaughter the Executive Director of Greenville Literacy Association.


Jocelyn Slaughter is the current Executive Director for Greenville Literacy Association (GLA).  She is the past development marketing manager at Miracle Hill Ministries where she helped drive marketing and awareness for nearly 6 years.  Jocelyn had nearly 12 years in Corporate America before transitioning to the nonprofit sector.  Jocelyn was the 2013 President of the Piedmont Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).   She is proud to be a member of Leadership Greenville Class 40, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and Rotary Club of Greenville.

Paige Stephenson joined United Way of the Piedmont in 2001 and served as VP of Resource Development until March 2016 when she was named President and CEO. An active member of the civic and professional community, Paige currently serves on the boards of United Way Association of South Carolina (CPO Council Chair), Together SC (Advocacy Chair), Association of Fundraising Professionals Piedmont Chapter, and Spartanburg Academic Movement. She is also a member of Rotary Club of Spartanburg and Northside Advisory Board and a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg and Spartanburg Regional Fellows. In 2017, she received the Jack Davis Professional Achievement Award from the College of Human Environmental Sciences, University of Alabama and the Pioneering Women Award for Philanthropy from Spartanburg Methodist College.

Scott Dishman is the Executive Director of the BMW Car Club of America Foundation. Scott spent 21 years in corporate marketing and brand strategy in both New York City and South Carolina. In 2006, Scott left the corporate world and transitioned from the Board to the staff at A Child's Haven. In 2009, Scott was asked to launch The Family Effect. Scott currently serves as Board Chair for Fostering Great Ideas. In 2015, Scott was selected to receive the James F. Barker Ethics in Action Award by the Rutland Institute for Ethics. Since 2012, Scott has also served as a Mentor in the Greenville Chambers Pacesetters program, working with 10 young professionals each year. Scott is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), and Past President of the Piedmont Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Tommy Blackmon is the founder of Nonprofit Transformation, Inc., a consultancy that serves nonprofit organizations helping their leaders to thrive. He was formerly the director of advancement at Southside Christian School where he led the schools first-ever capital campaign as well as numerous other capital funding projects and established the schools annual fund. He served for three years as board chair for Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County and served on the HFH capital campaign leadership team. Tommy currently serves on the board of Mill Community Ministries. He is a Riley Fellow of the Diversity Leaders Initiative at Furman University. Tommy and his wife Paula have two adult daughters, Sara and Caroline and two grandsons, Creighton and Holden.

This luncheon has been approved for one (1) continuing education hour for the CFRE.
